Remember I said I'd been working hard? Well here are some sneak peeks at Better Beasts, a graphic novel I'm currently working on with Mark Pembrey. It's all about the first palaeontologists and the bitter rivalry between them, in particular Gideon Mantell and Richard Owen. More pics and info to come soon. Oh, and as you might've already guessed, the stuff in pencil is yet to be inked but you get the idea!
Blockbuster 3000
Sorry about the long patch of silence...been working hard. More on that to come. In the meantime, here's a recent cartoon I did for Electric Sheep Magazine, the theme being convoluted film titles...
Concept drawings...(new project alert)
Some concept sketches for an exciting new Victorian period project I'm working on with the super talented Mark Pembrey (with his writing hat on). Won't say anymore for now except that there will be beasties in it...

...I've finally got a shop!!! Hope you find something you like....
Thought Bubble this weekend! 23rd - 24th November
This weekend I'll be exhibiting at Thought Bubble, the amazing annual comics festival in Leeds! I'll be in New Dock Hall on both the Saturday and Sunday so do pop by and say hi if you're planning on coming. I'll be selling all the same goodies as at Comiket, including Brighton: The Graphic Novel! And if you buy a comic I might even give you a free badge...
New Afanc adventures...
..such as this one are happening over on afanc-comic.tumblr.com. So go sniff 'em out!
Comiket this weekend!
I will be selling my wares again this Saturday 2nd November at the Comica Fall Comiket! For those who don't know, the Comiket is an independent comics fair where indy comics publishers and small press people (like me!) get to sell their work. It will be held at Central St Martins College of Arts and Design near King's Cross London. Opening times: 11-7pm. Entry: TOTALLY FREE!
So do come down and say hi if you're in town! Below are some preview pics of a new collected book of short strips I'll be selling, Jammo. This 24 page bad boy will be selling for around £4 plus free gift...
I'll also be selling copies of Brighton: The Graphic Novel and Afanc Issue 2!
Oh, and I've got badges too..
This month I have been...
..talking! These pics were taken at Quick Strips, a showcase of Brighton based cartoonists and general comics types, organised by the good people at Myriad Editions and Cartoon County. Each speaker was allowed a maximum of 6 minutes to talk about anything connected to their craft. Lots of fun and also very exciting to be on the same bill as big names such as Hannah Berry, Nye Wright, Hannah Eaton, Darryl Cunningham, Gareth Brookes and Joe Decie to name but a few! Thanks to my pals Ant and Becky for the photos.
...drawing! This is the cover art (prior to being scanned and coloured) for my new book currently being printed by the awesome Comic Printing UK. If you have a comics project that needs doing then give 'em a shout! Should be on sale in time for the Autumn Comiket 2013...
...drawing some more! This sketch of Magnus Volk and son Herman was part of a raffle at the Brighton: The Graphic Novel book launch. Yup, it's finally landed and is on sale here. Trust me, it looks amazing.
...and finally, selling! Here is the QueenSpark stall for Brighton: The Graphic Novel at The Winter London Film and Comic Con this weekend just gone. It was a jolly good laugh with lots of celeb spotting, 'guess the cosplay' and we even managed to sell some books! I hope fellow Brighton GN artist Pete Katz doesn't mind me posting this pic of him posing with the evil Empire...
Roger, Vince and Ed
Here is page 1 of a two page comic I just created for Electric Sheep Magazine, to celebrate the UK Blu-ray release of Roger Corman's classic Poe adaptation, The Fall of The House of Usher. The story features a fictional meeting between Corman, Poe and Price! Read the entire comic here.
Robots at Caption Fest
If you went to the awesome Caption Comics Festival in Oxford this weekend you might have seen this comic I did inside the programme. You guessed it - the theme for the festival was 'robots'. Unfortunately I couldn't make it but a copy of the programme that has been kept for me..will post a photo when I get my hands on it!
Some more Brighton Graphic Novel peeks
I've had some really encouraging comments about my work on this project (thank you!) so thought I'd post some more of my favourite panels while we wait for the official launch (October the 2nd!). Might even see some lettered pages soon, I believe the guys at QueenSpark are working on that as I write...
I've got an official Facebook page!
I've finally made an official Facebook page here. Feel free to 'like' if you like my work! And tell your friends. Cheers everyone!
Recent scrawls
Two bits of recent stuff. The first is a preview panel for a collaborative project I've just helped with called Score and Script. The project is the brainchild of very talented illustrator and comic book maker John Miers. Check out his work! It was a very unusual and exciting piece as I had to create a comic from a visual 'score' with no narrative clues (rather than using a script). You can find out more by following the link above. All contributions will be compiled together as an anthology comic due to be released later this year!
The second image is a quick logo I made for a colleague. He needed something to advertise a home delivery library service for an MA project he's currently working on. The parachute was his idea...
Improving your German through yoga
I recently drew a cartoon for U Berlin, a blog about Berlin life for two English expats. The article was produced together with Be My Guest, who offer short stay Berlin apartments. You can read it in full here. As you might guess, it's about finding unconventional ways to improve your German!
Feathered fun
A new Afanc strip! Tried to loosen up and break free of the rigid four panel format of previous efforts. Experimented with a dip pen in places and regretted it. I do like using dip pens but I don't think they suit the look of this project. Some day soon I'll have to come up with something that does suit using a pen. Hopefully something with spaceships and robots. Until then please continue to enjoy these historical shenanigans.
Brighton - The Graphic Novel... another quick peek.
Another quick progress report on Brighton - The Graphic Novel. All scanned and on the colour work now - the end is in sight!
Brighton - the graphic novel
Some rather dark smartphone snaps of what I'm working on at the moment (pretty full colour clean scans coming soon). It's deadline time at the end of the month, looking forward to seeing everyone else's contributions too! Find out more about Brighton - The Graphic Novel here.
Fear the beast
Happy New Year. A bit late I know. Here's my latest Afanc strip to help lift the January blues...maybe. This one and more strips now have a special home here. Tumblr users, feel free to 'follow'!
It's just not cricket?
A somewhat dodgy photo of a recent commission. Ink and water colour on board. Concept is client's idea.
I'm always up for commissions so email me if you have something in mind! And I ain't that pricey either.
Recent stuff
Getting slack on the blog posting again, sorry kids. Here are some recent efforts: a new illustration to advertise an upcoming series of seminars at Sussex Uni, a preparatory sketch for a private commission featuring a giraffe in cricket whites (!) and another strip added to my Afanc weekly web comic (hopefully to become at least bi-weekly in the new year). Have a great Christmas y'all!
